Pressure washers are not your daily average garden water hose. They are best treated and considered as work equipments and in category with the likes of a chainsaws, brush cutter and other commercial or industrial equipment that if mishandled or misused could lead to damage to properties or worse, injuries.
There are also a lot of things to consider when using pressure washers, like in the previous posts, there are categories (Residential, Commercial & Industrial) with regards to the use of the pressure washer and each category would require a different type of pressure washer according to power and feature variations (motor, pump, hose, trigger gun, unloader valve, wand or lance and wand tips type).
1. Use protective gear when operating the pressure washer (Goggles or Blast Shield, Gloves, Ear Plugs, Boots and Coveralls or Raincoat). If you will be working with chemicals, pesticides it’s also best to use a reliable mask (gas mask) to avoid inhaling toxic spray, and it is also best to use duct tape to seal the glove onto the sleeve to prevent fluid seeping in.
2. Before operating check every part of the pressure washer. Knowing what to check is also important.
a. Look for leaks in the pump. Check the oil level and or oil leaks for gas engine operated washers. For electric motors make sure there are no tears on the electrical cord and see to it that you avoid wet spots when using extension cords;
b. Check the hose for wear and tear which may be caused by frequent dragging on rough surfaces; also see to it that hose adapters are fastened tight to avoid slipping and detaching.
c. Ensure all inlet and outlet ports, nozzles, wands and spray tips are free from clogs, dirt or sand. Chances of propelling these minute objects at high pressure would result in serious damage or injury.
d. The most important part of the pressure washer’s safety feature is the trigger gun; so it is best to ensure it is working properly.
3. When operating the pressure washer’s motor, make sure that it is far enough from the place you are applying to avoid soaking the motor. Be sure also to use the appropriate model type for the job; units with electric motors are best for indoor application because it is much quiet and does not emit fumes. Remove light bulbs and seal off sockets and wall outlets before washing and; always operate the pressure washer on a level surface.
4. Do not point the nozzle to anyone. Do not use the maximum pressure when you start washing. Using this technique could result in damage. It is best to start lower and increasingly adjust the pressure needed to achieve the best result for the job. Start from the bottom and gradually increase as you go. Also make sure you use the right Spray Tips for the work.
5. It is best to have a buddy when operating the pressure washer on a ladder or ledge. Intense force while spraying would sometime result in some “kickback” and might cause you to lose balance; if no one is available to assist you, it is advisable to use a telescoping wand to be able to reach high surfaces or places.
6. It is best to clean the equipment after use. Run clean water through the system if you have used detergents, chemicals or pesticides to prevent corrosion in the pump, wand and trigger gun. It is also advisable to let the motor or engine cool before stowing it away.
Follow these basic safety tips to get the most out of and achieve best results when you use your pressure washer.

Balotelli keeps Inter ahead as top three in Serie A win – Yahoo! News
ROME (AFP) –
Rebel striker Mario Balotelli made a goalscoring return for Inter Milan on Saturday as the champions beat Bologna 3-0 while AS Roma and AC Milan also won to keep up the Serie A title pressure.
Mirko Vucinic scored the only goal of the game as second-placed AS Roma triumphed 1-0 at Bari, to stay one point behind Inter, while Milan stayed three points off top with a 3-2 success at Cagliari.
Inter came into their game in poor league form having won only two of their previous nine matches, but they dominated despite suffering from a number of suspensions, notably captain Javier Zanetti, Cameroon forward Samuel Eto'o and Brazilian defenders Maicon and Lucio.
But, having apologised publically in midweek for his part in a bust-up with coach Jose Mourinho, Balotelli, who had been frozen out for the previous six matches, ensured Eto'o's absence was hardly felt.
He was involved in much of Inter's attacking work and got his name on the scoresheet with a low right-foot finish from Diego Milito's cross seven minutes after the break.
Brazilian midfielder Thiago Motta had given Inter a first half lead with a low shot from distance just before the half hour mark.
And he rounded off the scoring with a crisp curling left-foot finish five minutes from time after playing a one-two with Dejan Stankovic as he burst into the box.
Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso admitted that their rivals have the advantage on them as they are not playing in Europe any more.
“We're first, one point ahead. It won't be easy but if we win all our remaining matches we'll be champions,” he said.
“Roma have an advantage, though, because they're not in the Champions League whereas we have to think about that.”
Roma produced a professional and controlled performance decided by Vucinic's 19th minute goal in a game of few chances and little action.
Coach Claudio Ranieri was rewarded for his bold team selection of a three-pronged attack with Francesco Totti and Vucinic flanking Luca Toni as the three combined for the winner.
Totti fed Toni on the edge of the box and he slipped in Vucinic running in behind him to finish with aplomb.
And with six matches left Ranieri insisted his team would not yield in the run-in.
“We won't buckle, we're in good shape. It can happen that our level dips for one game, the other teams can play better than us but we're in good shape,” he said.
“We have a chance we could not have imagined a few months ago and now we have to fight for every ball.
“Inter are favourites because they're ahead, they have a monster of a squad to fight on all fronts but for us this win and staying one point behind gives us enthusiasm, belief and an adrenaline boost.”
Milan's victory came courtesy of a crazy first half in which all five goals were scored.
Marco Borriello opened the scoring on seven minutes after he played a one-two with Clarence Seedorf and then finished right-footed inside the near post.
But Daniele Ragatzu levelled 10 minutes later with a low shot from just inside the area.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar restored Milan's advantage two minutes after that with a long-range effort into the top corner past Italy international goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.
Cagliari were level again just after the hour mark following a three-on-two counter-attack with Alessandro Matri finishing high past Dida.
But seven minutes before the break Milan grabbed their winner with a comical own goal as Ignazio Abate's cross was pushed out by Marchetti onto Davide Astori's thigh and over the line.
