New Pressure Washers
A pressure washer, as the name implies, makes use of high-pressure water flow to clean various surfaces. They are often used to remove dirt, dust, grime and mold from buildings, concrete and vehicles. The basic setup of a pressure washer is a motor to drive the pump, a hose designed to handle high pressure flow and a trigger-style switch to turn the flow off and on. It is important that one recognize that the pressure washer cannot draw any more water than can be given from the source, meaning that the source that pressure washer is attached must also have an adequate flow (relatively high pressure) in order for the washer to function correctly. Lack of water pressure can damage the pressure washer, so make sure to keep on eye on this issue. Most models beyond the cheapest setups come with a variety of nozzles that can be adapted for specific pressure cleaning situations, some allow for additional cleaning materials, though many do not.

Pressure Washer Safety
NPW wants to take a moment to discuss the dangers of water-based cleaning systems. It is important
that you thoroughly read the manual of your equipment before using it, and make sure that others who use you equipment do the same, or at the very minimum are informed of some of these safety issues. These can be very dangerous tools. The force exuded closest to the source is enough to tear through your skin, straight down to the bone. Do we have your attention now? Imagine that same force applied to metal pieces or objects that are not attached or loosely attached to the surface you are cleaning. This create instant missile-like projectiles. The dangers are not solely limited to you or those around you. You also must be cognizant of the surfaces and objects that you are exerting this force upon. Pressure washers can break through asphalt if aim directly at it, especially if there are existing cracks or weaknesses in the surface. Also be aware that pressure washers can easily strip the paint off of your vehicle, which is great if that’s what you are trying to do, but not so great if you were just trying to get it clean. Be sure to practice safety out there when using your machine. Just a friendly reminder from us at NPW… be safe and happy cleaning!
